Harrison T 100wc (and then the noise stopped)

Tension was building in the colossal sports arena. Anxious competitors, who had trained for years, were about to start the race of their lives. Glancing around the arena all Simon could see were desperate fans cheering for their heroes. Simon’s heart started to pound, the race was about to commence, adrenalin was racing through his veins.

He was frightened in case he would lose and disappoint his fans, but he was determined to take on this challenge! The race started, the blast of the gun was ear-splitting, suddenly someone toppled over and the noise stopped everyone was in a panic, the medic ran onto the track.

The soldiers marching in, the cry of the guns, the blast of deadly bombs falling out of the sky. We’re remembering those who didn’t quite make it out of the treacherous battlefield.
As I laid down the wreath of red poppies, I glanced around to see an immaculate row of smart ex-servicemen with their heads bowed down remembering their fellow comrades.
The cenotaph soon had a sea of poppies surrounding it. The clock tower struck eleven, the bugle echoed around the square as it began to play The Last Post, silence fell. Now was the time to remember those brave soldiers who gave up their lives for us.

100 Word Challenge Harrison T

“Well that has to be the worst April fool ever!” the police man said in disgust. The frail old man sat on the crooked bench huddled with his faithful dog. Both of them still appeared to be shaking.

Whilst on their usual morning walk, which they take religiously, the man came across what he thought was a grim discovery. He glanced across to see two light grey wellingtons poking out of the pond.  In a panic he reached into his pocket, pulled out his phone and dialled 999.

Little did he realise that earlier that day two scallywags had planted trousers and wellies on sticks, thinking it would be funny. Nobody was laughing.
